Welcome to the Oz Watergardens Blog.

I just spent the weekend with my family, in the Victorian countryside.

We visited a few of our good customers around the Bendigo area and also presented a couple of talks about pond plants and water gardens.

Rob Zimmer, from ASQ Garden World, invited me to present at 2 of their nurseries. One at Eaglehawk (near Bendigo) and the other at Harcourt (near Castlemaine).

We were fortunate that the forecasted rain didn’t eventuate. However, the cold wind did make it a little more interesting and entertaining for some, with some of the displays blowing around.

ASQ Garden World promoted the talk (see below) on local radio, newspaper and through their online network.

Be Spring Inspired

Creating Wondrous Water Gardens

Sunday 23rd September

Water Plant grower and expert Darryl Hoogeboom will clear the muddy water of mystery surrounding water plants. Learn how to create a water garden in a pond or pot, which plants like what, learn about water iris, water lilies and meet the amazing and exotic fringe dwellers and bog plant family.

11am – 12pm at ASQ Eaglehawk

2pm – 3pm at ASQ Skydancers Harcourt.

Despite the cold winds, it was still an enjoyable experience. I feel that it’s always a good opportunity for me to help people with their pond problems and answer any questions that they have. Some people were enquiring about the growing of waterlilies in dams, others had murky water issues and were concerned about their fish. Some just wanted advice on filtration and plant selection. Even the kids got to ask questions.

I’d like to thank Rob and the team and also the girls at the Skydancers cafe for providing a lovely lunch. Their cafe is a wonderful addition to their retail nursery. It is not even 12mths old, but obviously popular with the locals. A lovely welcoming atmosphere and great food too.
